FENNOR / SOLAR FAQ & ADVICE

Good questions.
Clearer solar decisions.

Will solar work on your roof? What does a battery add? How much power will you still buy? Fennor explains the choices in plain language and helps you take the next step for your own property.

A READING ROOM FOR BETTER DECISIONS

Start with your question.
Follow it a little further.

01

Your roof

Roof repairs or panels first?

Fennor assesses the roof before agreeing the array and explains any repair work that needs to come first. That helps avoid paying to remove and reinstate panels for near-term roof work.

One roof face or more?

We compare suitable roof faces for orientation, shading and time-of-day output. You see why a split layout may suit your electricity use differently from panels on a single slope.

02

Your electricity

What should a savings claim explain?

Fennor explains generation, direct self-use, export, tariffs and the costs included. We also show what lower self-use does to the estimate, so your decision does not depend only on the most attractive scenario.

Does more capacity always mean more value?

Not necessarily. Extra generation may be exported rather than used on site. Electrical limits, roof constraints and the marginal cost also affect the comparison.

03

Your equipment

How do I compare two batteries?

We compare usable energy, charge/discharge power, inverter compatibility, warranty conditions and how you intend to use storage. You get a like-for-like explanation, not just a bigger capacity number.

Will all the smart devices cooperate?

Fennor assesses the battery, diverter and charger together. The installation team configures the agreed priorities and shows you how they share surplus; separate apps alone do not establish compatibility.

Your proposal

What does a useful handover include?

At handover, we take you through the installed equipment and controls, arrange the relevant electrical and grid records, and explain warranties and who to contact for support.

What should I ask about future changes?

Tell us about a planned EV, heat pump, roof work or extension. We explain which future changes the proposal allows for and which would require further design, equipment or cost.

A GOOD SOLAR CONVERSATION

Bring the bill.
Bring the questions.

Start with the bill and the questions you have. Fennor uses your annual usage and, where available, its timing to assess the opportunity. We include your future plans and explain the next survey and proposal steps—you do not need to arrive with a finished design.

A QUESTION WE CAN WORK THROUGH WITH YOU

YOUR PROJECT WITH FENNOR

Your roof. Your electricity.
Your solar questions.

We explain the choices, the work involved and what happens next, so you can decide with a clearer picture.

01

We make the numbers easier to follow.

kWp describes nominal panel capacity, kW is power at a moment and kWh is energy over time. We use your proposed equipment to explain the difference, so inverter power and battery storage are not treated as the same figure.

02

You see what sits behind the estimate.

We explain expected generation, direct use, export and tariffs alongside the system price. The estimate reflects the assumptions about your routine, and we show why a change in daytime use could affect the result.

03

We look after the roof questions too.

Tell us about planned repairs or anything that concerns you. We identify the condition, structural and shading checks needed, then explain access, cable routes, weatherproofing and maintenance in the proposed installation.

SUPPORT FOR THE WORK YOU HAVE IN MIND

A clearer budget.
The support to explore.

These are the relevant funding options to discuss with Fennor alongside your project. We explain the full price, the support that may apply and the steps before you commit.

Grant support

Standard home solar PV

Up to €1,800

Support is based on the installed panel capacity. With a separately eligible €600 battery grant, the combined standard maximum is €2,400.

Conditions & official guidance
First 2 kWp
€700 per kWp
Additional capacity up to 4 kWp
€200 per kWp
  • Home built and occupied before 2025, with an MPRN and no previous solar-PV funding at that MPRN.
  • Wait for the offer before installation; use the registered company named in it and complete the required post-works BER and paperwork within the offer period.

Grant support

Home battery storage

€600

Flat-rate support for an eligible battery of at least 5 kWh. A larger battery does not increase this grant.

Conditions & official guidance
  • Home built and occupied before 2025, with an MPRN and no previous battery funding at that MPRN. A battery can be installed with or without solar.
  • Approval is needed before installation by an SEAI-registered solar-PV contractor. A post-works BER is required where solar PV is present; the works and documents must meet the eight-month offer period.

Grant support

Enhanced household solar support

Up to €9,000

An eligibility-based route: up to €8,400 solar PV plus €600 for an eligible battery. It replaces—not adds to—the standard PV rate.

Conditions & official guidance
Enhanced PV maximum
€8,400
Eligible battery, 5 kWh or larger
€600
  • Available to homeowners receiving specified qualifying welfare payments, subject to SEAI evidence and scheme conditions.
  • A separate Dublin RAS pilot requires a qualifying long-term tenancy and confirmation from one of the four Dublin local authorities. It is not a grant for every landlord or household.
  • The usual property, prior-funding and approval requirements still apply.

USEFUL ANSWERS

The questions behind
a better solar decision.

Plain language. No pressure to have it all figured out.

01

Do panels work when it is cloudy?

Yes, PV can generate in diffuse daylight, usually less than in strong sunlight. Weather, season and shading affect output. We explain those factors in the site-specific estimate.

02

Does my roof have to face south?

No. Other directions can work with different generation patterns. We establish the site assessment needed instead of ruling a roof out by direction alone.

03

Would solar remove my electricity bill?

Usually not. Imports, standing charges and other charges can remain. We explain the expected balance between generation, use and export using your tariff and routine.

04

What would the handover include?

We set out the agreed equipment records, applicable electrical certification, grid-notification evidence, commissioning, warranties and operating guidance. We also explain who will handle your aftercare questions.

05

Should I include a battery now or later?

We explain both options using your demand, surplus, tariff and equipment compatibility, including whether later expansion is practical. A battery needs a useful purpose, not just a place on the quote.
